Using Xming to connect to the Springfield Cluster from KINSC H204
Double
click on the Xming
icon to start the X window system.
(You won’t see anything
happen besides a small X icon in the system tray)
Double
Click on the Putty
icon on the desktop to launch it
Choose
any of the saved sessions to connect to a computer in the
Springfield Cluster and click on Load and then click on
Open
(example: “marge” will load the settings for
marge.cs.haverford.edu

Login with the username and password you use in the lab itself.
Instead of a full screen with a menu bar at the top, you will see one “xterm” window into which you can type the names of the programs you want to launch (for example, type “eclipse” to start Eclipse). See Option 1 of the “Guide to Accessing Your Projects from Outside the H110 Lab” for more information (http://cs.haverford.edu/resources/H110/remote_access.txt).
When you are done, exit all X applications such as Eclipse in the usual way, and then quit putty (by closing the window) and Xming (by right-clicking on the X icon in the system tray and choosing exit) to avoid leaving open access to your account and files.
