Eva is celebrating her 9th birthday by donating her hair for charity at the Bald Ball, and you can support her with a donation; you can read about her in the Main Line Times online.

Eva Patrice Dougherty was born at 3:03 pm EST on Tuesday, March 17, 1998 (yes, St. Patrick's Day) at Bryn Mawr Hospital, weighing 5 lbs., 13 oz., and measuring 19 inches in length.

Eva contracted a rare, yet severe, viral enceplalitis in her brain and central nervous system. She spent the month of April in the NIC Unit of CHOP, where she was treated by both Neonatology and Neurology. Eva is presently seen by Dr. Susan P. Magargee of Kids First Haverford. Eva's other health care professionals include:

Eva and her brother Quinn, the friendly doctor, March 2004.

Eva has made significant progress (e.g., laughing out loud began January 2000), but still requires a feeding tube (G-tube), a Giraffe stander, an Orbit wheelchair/seating system, MAFOs (ankle supports) and an eye patch, as well as constant professional care. Ellen & I are cautiously optimistic, especially since she began preschool at CPA in January 2001 twice weekly, then thrice weekly -- she then attended OSB Early Childhood program full time, and now attends the LIFE Elementary program.

Eva now has a littler brother Quinn, born November 12, 2001 -- she has already been featured in the newspaper and on the web.
